Below are articles from various sources about members of MCB and their research.
Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology Jennifer Doudna joined Joseph Biden this morning at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, as the vice president promoted a major new U.S. initiative to speed the discovery of cures for cancer, what President Obama has dubbed a “cancer moonshot.”
The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, along with Integrative Biology, joins the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute to celebrate the pioneering contributions of Dr. Marian Diamond to modern neuroscience. Mark your calendars for this free, special celebration! 1:00 pm, February 27, 2016, at BAMPFA.
It’s the season for being grateful, and Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley has a lot to be grateful for. We’ve been consistently making big news all year long. Thanks to our researchers, teachers and students for making crucial contributions on many scientific fronts!

Associate Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology Michelle Chang has been honored with the Pfizer Award in Enzyme Chemistry, from the Division of Biological Chemistry in the American Chemical Society. This award is for outstanding work in enzyme chemistry where the presence of enzyme action is unequivocally demonstrated.
Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology Jennifer A. Doudna is the recipient of the 2016 Biopolymers Murray Goodman Memorial Prize from the Division of Biological Chemistry in the American Chemical Society. This award is for outstanding accomplishments in one or more of the areas of biochemistry, biophysical chemistry, biophysics, and/or chemical biology.
In its year-end issue, the journal Science chose the CRISPR genome-editing technology, originating out of Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology Jennifer Doudna's lab, 2015’s Breakthrough of the Year.
A new study from the Patel Lab illustrates the ease with which CRISPR-Cas9 can knock out genes in exotic animals — in this case, an amphipod or sandhopper — to learn how those genes control growth and development.
Professor of Genetics, Genomics and Development Jasper Rine has been elected to the National Academy of Inventors, along with two other UC Berkeley faculty members.
Today marks the start of a three-day international summit in Washington, D.C. focusing on the ethics of making permanent, hereditary changes in the human genome. Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology Jennifer Doudna spearheaded this effort with an informal discussion organized in January -- bringing international attention and laying the ground work for this summit.
