It is with regret that we announce the death of Professor John Forte. He died peacefully at home surrounded by family following a prolonged illness with leukemia.

The Department of Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB) is seeking applications for four faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level (tenured track) in the areas listed below, including a joint position with the Department of Chemistry (CHEM). We seek candidates with Ph. D. and/or M.D. degree who have demonstrated excellence, originality and productivity in research, and interest in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Ph.D. or equivalent is required by date of hire.

Associate Professor of Immunology and Pathology Greg Barton has been awarded a $1 million dollar grant from the Lupus Research Institute (LRI) Distinguished Innovator Initiative for his research on the regulation of Toll-like receptors and its role in autoimmune attacks.

The Raymond and Beverly Sackler Center for Biomedical, Physical and Engineering Sciences has appointed Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology Carlos Bustamante and Professor of Genetics, Genomics and Development Lior Pachter as The Raymond and Beverly Sackler Chair in Biophysics and the Raymond and Beverly Sackler Chair in Computational Biology respectively.

MCB Graduate Students Mark Grabiner (Machen Lab), Nate Krefman (Drubin/Barnes Lab) and Angela Kaczmarczyk (Patel Lab) were awarded the 2012 Science Parody of the Year Lab Grammy award by the journal BioTechniques for their video titled ‰ÛÏGrad School I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down.‰Û The video was produced for MCB's annual Follies.
