Q. What aspects of your MCB degree program best helped you prepare for your career?

A. The opportunities to participate in research, both on and off campus, as a part of coursework and outside my coursework, provided invaluable and transferrable tools, skills, and ways of thinking that I am so grateful for now.

Q. How did you decide on your current career path?

A. Following my time at Berkeley, I continued pursuing research that I'd begun as an undergraduate intern at Berkeley Air Monitoring Group, engaging with the health and climate impacts of the burning of biomass to meet the energy needs of populations around the world. My love for respiratory health blossomed and I missed the laboratory angle more and more--which is how I found myself as a PhD student studying cellular mechanisms of pulmonary fibrosis here in London, in the Department of Respiratory Medicine at University College London (UCL). I hope to continue using biological techniques at the molecular and cellular level to contribute to therapies which build resilience in respiratory health on a population level, in a world which can expect environmental exposures to get worse before they (very hopefully) get better.

Q. Share your favorite Berkeley lunch place, coffee shop, landmark study spot...etc.

A. Sprawled out on Memorial Glade, soaking up the California sun
