Atomic Structure of Isolated Proteasome Lid Reveals Inhibition Mechanism

Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator and Associate Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology Andreas Martin is a member of a team of researchers from UC Berkeley and The Scripps Research Institute that used cryo-electron microscopy to determine the atomic structure of the isolated proteasome lid. The structure reveals the mechanism by which the deubiquitinating enzyme Rpn11 is inhibited when the lid is not associated with the proteasome.
