That this event was made BY students (both IB and MCB) FOR students. A whopping 26 clubs and organizations dedicated their time and efforts to the student community.

Assistant Adjunct Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology and Scientific Director of the Innovative Genomics Initiative (IGI) Jacob Corn and colleagues have been able to improve the efficiency of the CRISPR-Cas9 technique's ability to replacing a short stretch of DNA with another by 60%.

Associate Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology Andreas Martin is a member of a team of researchers from UC Berkeley and The Scripps Research Institute that used cryo-electron microscopy to determine the atomic structure of the isolated proteasome lid. The structure reveals the mechanism by which the deubiquitinating enzyme Rpn11 is inhibited when the lid is not associated with the proteasome.

Associate Professor of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology Michelle Chang has been honored with the Pfizer Award in Enzyme Chemistry, from the Division of Biological Chemistry in the American Chemical Society. This award is for outstanding work in enzyme chemistry where the presence of enzyme action is unequivocally demonstrated.

Doudna is the recipient of the 2016 Biopolymers Murray Goodman Memorial Prize from the Division of Biological Chemistry in the American Chemical Society. This award is for outstanding accomplishments in one or more of the areas of biochemistry, biophysical chemistry, biophysics, and/or chemical biology.
