Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology David Drubin has been selected as the next Editor-in-Chief of Molecular Biology of the Cell (MBC), the journal of the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB).
Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Ahmet Yildiz has been awarded a Sloan Research Fellowships by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The fellowship provides $50,000 to early-career scientists who show outstanding promise.
MCB graduate student Walter Fischler of Professor Kristin Scott's lab is the recipient of a Weintraub award for 2009. The Harold M. Weintraub Graduate Student Award recognizes outstanding achievement during graduate studies in the biological sciences.

Five MCB faculty members have been named as 2008 Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). They include Associate Professor (Affiliated) of Genetics, Genomics and Development Steven Brenner, Howard Hughes Investigator and Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Jennifer Doudna,
Howard Hughes Investigator and Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Robert Tjian received a $918,000 grant from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) to develop new molecular tools and novel technologies for high efficiency gene targeting in stem cells.
The Berkeley Center for Emerging and Neglected Diseases (CEND), an inter-disciplinary research center that includes many faculty members in MCB, received a $7 million pledge from philanthropist Henry Wheeler.
