Professor Jeffery Winer has been selected as a recipient of the 2007 Faculty Award for Outstanding Mentorship of GSIs. This award recognizes faculty who have provided GSIs outstanding mentorship in teaching at Berkeley. Professor Winer was selected for the award based on nominations submitted by GSIs from MCB.

Chancellor's Award for Advancing Institutional Excellence.
Professor Kane is among four distinguished recipients of this award from
across the campus.
MCB Assistant Professor of Cell & Developmental
Biology Michael Rape has been awarded the Kimmel Scholars Award. This award provides $100,000 per year
for two years for young investigators engaged in cancer-related research.

MCB graduate students Carolyn Phillips and Gianna Hammer have received the 2007 Harold M. Weintraub award.
Gianna completed her Ph.D. in the Fall semester in the Nilabh Shastri lab working on antigen processing in the endoplasmic reticulum. Carolyn will complete her Ph.D this semester in the Dernburg lab working on understanding fundamental mechanisms of chromosome segregation.

Former MCB Graduate Student Dr. Tracy Johnson has been selected as a 2005 recipient of the prestigious Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).
Dr. Johnson received her Ph.D. from the MCB Department in 1996 after completing her thesis research on RNA binding to RNA Polymerase II in Professor Michael Chamberlain's lab. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Biology at the University of California, San Diego.
