Our lab studies membrane assembly, vesicular transport, and membrane fusion among organelles of the secretory pathway. Basic principles that emerged from our past and on-going studies in yeast are now being applied to studies of genetic diseases of protein transport.

Randy Schekman is an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and a Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California at Berkeley. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2013.
