Crossover Inhibition
Because of rectification at the synapse, the negative parts of the ON and OFF patterns are lost in the excitatory and inhibitory currents. But crossover restores the missing components: What is lost from the ON input is restored by the OFF system, and what is lost from the OFF input is restored by the ON system.
