Values Statement

We recognize that, as a lab and as part of the larger scientific community, we have a responsibility to improve diversity, equity and inclusion in our workplace and in society. We are committed to creating a respectful workplace that provides a supportive environment for producing excellent science and scientists. We are collectively accountable for the health, wellbeing, and success of our community.

Welch Lab Values

Collaboration: We achieve more by working with others. We strive to make people feel welcome and respected and we encourage all to contribute.

Diversity: We respect human experiences and perspectives across ability/disability, age, class, culture, ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, race, sexual orientation, political opinion and religion. We embrace individual differences and welcome the value that each person brings to us and our science.

Support: We value the wellness of our lab members. We support each other through mentorship and by prioritizing mental health above productivity.

Growth: Our workplace is a place of learning and teaching. We strive to teach ourselves and each other to be better researchers, people, and contributors to our community and society.

Land acknowledgement: We recognize that our lab sits on the territory of xučyun (Huichin), the ancestral and unceded land of the Chocenyo-speaking Ohlone people, the successors of the sovereign Verona Band of Alameda County. This land is of great importance to the Muwekma Ohlone people. We recognize that we benefit from the use and occupation of this land.
