This depiction of circularized mRNA bound to the small ribosomal subunit represents a minimal model for how we think about the translation initiation complex. Our current genetic and biochemical studies on this complex in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiaeaim to further define it and to understand how its formation is regulated.
