It is with sadness that we announce the Professor Emeritus of Neurobiology Harold Lecar passed away on February 4, 2014.

Since 1985 when he arrived at Berkeley, Dr. Lecar was one of the principles of our biophysics and molecular neuroscience communities. His pioneering work on single ion channel was foundational for the study of excitable membranes and had great influence on single molecule analyses of molecular machines that followed. He carried out important theoretical and experimental studies of neuronal signaling and did an enormous amount to nurture the molecular neuroscience community. A short Scholarpedia entry with a lovely photo is available here.

Harold is survived by his wife, Helene, two children, Matt and Josh, and three grandchildren.
