My project focuses on characterizing the pre-synaptic circuitry of
the local edge detector (LED) ganglion cell using classic electrophysiological and pharmacological techniques. Little is known about LED circuity, except for its apparent function. I'm also
developing a method of visually tracing retinal circuitry using
GFP-tagged pseudorabies virus (PRV), a neurotropic alphaherpes virus
that back-infects across synapses, which could be a powerful tool for
visualizing circuitry upstream of retinal ganglion cells.
