Become a Faculty Sponsor

  • Mentor a first-year graduate student. Sponsors check in with their students at least twice during their first semester. Additional meetings beyond the first semester are encouraged but not required.
  • Participate in at least one workshop activity during the pre-orientation.
  • Serve as a positive role model: be accepting, supportive, and encouraging of your mentee during their transition into graduate school.

Serve as a Graduate Student Liason (GSL)

  • Open to third-year and beyond graduate students from MCB, Biophysics, Computational Biology, Integrative Biology, Helen Wills and Comparative Biochemistry.

  • Lead at least two of the MCB 200AB weekly study sections of your choice.

    • Throughout the first semester, iMCB will host weekly study sessions to help students master course material.

    • GSLs are expected to attend the course lectures when they teach.

  • Mentor new students through their first year and beyond during the exciting and challenging times in graduate school, like choosing a lab, departmental or divisional retreats, and the qualifying exam season.

  • To reward GSLs for their time and efforts, the Dean's office will grant each participant a $500 stipend per semester.
