Annual inclusiveMCB Symposium
The first of its kind, iMCB+ serves to create a space where we can discuss issues and provide concrete solutions to help students recognize and cope with feelings of uncertainty, isolation, and fear. In the Fall of 2018, we held our first successful trial run of the program.
We hosted a student panel, Overcoming Stereotype-Threat and Unconscious Bias: The Student Perspective which started to bridge the gap between students of all cohorts and fostered open and honest discussions around pressures from finances, family, and peers. We also partnered with esteemed social psychologist Rodolfo Mendoza-Denton, professor of psychology here at UC Berkeley, to host workshops on unconscious bias, stereotype threat and systemic bias.
Our 2019 symposium theme is “Bridging the Gap: How do you navigate the traditional academic narrative while maintaining your most authentic self?”
