Attend Cal Student Orientation (CalSO)!
To ensure a positive start to your semester, it is important to attend CalSO. Academic advisors from the MCB department will be available to answer all your questions. You will also have the opportunity to meet fellow transfer students. We will cover many important topics at CalSO, such as:
- The differences among the 9 MCB major programs
- How to choose an emphasis
- The MCB prerequisites, and what to do if you haven't completed them
- One-on-one schedule planning for your first semester
- First hand accounts of what to expect as an MCB transfer student
- Resources on campus to help you be successful
- Information on how to schedule courses outside your major
- Declaring MCB and the probation policy
You will also receive a packet of materials to take with you, which will reinforce everything covered at CalSO.
For more information, check out the CalSO website:http://services.housing.berkeley.edu/NSS/Content/Welcome.html
Get involved with student groups
Molecular and Cell Biology has 2 very active undergraduate student groups. Both the MCB Undergraduate Student Association (mcbUSA) & the Cell Developmental and Neurobiology Association (MCBcDNA) hold many social and informative functions throughout the year. Some examples of past events are "MCAT Night", "Volunteer Fair", and "Second Breakfast with the Professors." Pay attention to the MCB website and MCB-infoline for the latest news. There are hundreds of student groups, both academic and non-academic, that you can participate in. Walk through Sproul Plaza to experience just a few.
