BIOLOGY 1A & 1AL
FALL SEMESTER 2013
Enrollment is open for both Bio 1A and 1AL. You may enroll in either courses or both courses in Phase 1 if you choose not to enroll in both, then you may attempt to enroll in the other course in Phase 2 or later. Please remember enrollment in Bio 1A does not guarantee enrollment in Bio 1AL. Therefore, enrolling in Bio 1AL first is the better choice.
LAB SECTION CONFLICTS WITH NIGHT SCHEDULED EXAMS:
Don't enroll in a lab section at night if is conflicts with night scheduled exams in other courses. Check the Schedule of Classes Listing for other courses you are enrolled or plan to enroll. Do not create a conflict. You will not automatically be permitted to reschedule your lab section during the week of the conflict with the exam.
Biology 1A and 1AL have the following evening scheduled exams. Students must ensure there are no scheduled conflicts so they are able to attend these exams at their scheduled times.
Biology 1A has two midterm exams scheduled in the evening.
Midterm Exam 1: Thursday October 3rd from 7:30 to 9:30 PM.
Midterm Exam 2: Thursday November 7th from 7:30 to 9:30 PM. (Conflicts with a Chem 3B exam which we are working to resolve)
Final Exam: Monday December 16th from 7:00-10:00 PM.
Biology 1AL has two midterm exams scheduled in the evening.
Lab Exam 1: Thursday October 23rd from 7:30 to 9:30 PM.

SWITCHING SECTIONS:
If you can't get in the discussion or lab section you want, it may be possible to switch later. You should not enroll in a section that conflicts with another class section, an exam scheduled outside normal class time (such as in the evenings, or a mandatory class event .
HOW ENROLLMENT WORKS:
Students must enroll in the "lecture section" of the classes first (both Bio 1A and Bio 1AL have lecture sections). After enrolling in the lecture section of a class, it will be required to choose an available discussion section (with Bio 1A) or lab section (with Bio 1AL). It's not possible to enroll in a discussion section or a lab section without first enrolling in the lecture section of the class.
If you have any questions, you may write to Erol Kepkep, the Bio 1A/1AL Enrollment Coordinator, at bio1a-enrollment@berkeley.edu.
