Eudora to Thunderbird Migration

This page is for MCB faculty and lab members who are currently using Eudora. Eudora will no longer be supported on campus due to current campus security requirements. If you are not currently using Eudora, you don't need to read any further.

Qualcomm (the company that owned and developed Eudora) announced last year that they are discontinuing Eudora development. As a result, ongoing security updates will no longer be available for Eudora and it no longer meets the UC Berkeley Minimum Security Standards. The campus is recommending Thunderbird as the replacement e-mail client (you can read the memo). MCB Help is also recommending Thunderbird for departmental computers.

Most of the team that was working on Eudora at Qualcomm, including Steve Dorner, Eudora’s original developer, are now working for the Thunderbird project. Thunderbird is an open-source, full-featured email client.

We have put together, detailed instructions for migrating your e-mail from Eudora to Thunderbird. Mac users can find detailed MCB Help migration instructions here. The instructions for Windows XP users are still a work in progress.

The Calmail support team has put up some knowledge base articles to help with the migration. If you are interested in reading additional information on this topic, here is a link to their summary page and within that page are links for Mac users and also users of Windows email clients.
