The lung Krüppel-like factor (LKLF) plays a critical role in stabilization of blood vessels during development. Expression of LKLF is restricted to endothelial cells in embryos, as shown by in situ hybridization analysis of mouse embryo sections. The related article describes the requirement for the ERK5 MAP kinase in the MEF2-dependent regulation of the lklf gene.
