Graduate Student Ryan Forster

Ryan Forster

Senior Scientific Researcher in Cell Engineering

Genentech San Francisco, CA.

UC Berkeley Seal   Ph.D. 2018 in MCB and Chemical Biology

   University of California, Berkeley

National Science Foundation Logo   GRFP Fellow

    National Science Foundation

Arizona State University Seal    B.S. in Molecular Bioscience and Biotechnology

    Arizona State University

Research interests in the lab:

I developed a method for generating human intestinal tissue in vitro that I am using to study the development and pathophysiology of the intestinal epithelium. I use genome engineering in pluripotent stem cells or human biopsy derivatives to generate three-dimensional organoid cultures to model a more complex cellular environment.

Sam Regalado

M.D. / Ph.D. Student in the Medical Scientist Training Program

   University of Washington

UC Berkeley Seal  B.A. in Molecular and Cell Biology

Research interests in the lab

I was interested in the mechanisms underlying telomere length regulation in healthy and diseased cells. The goal of my project was to gain key mechanistic insights into crucial components, such as TPP1, that participate in telomere length regulation.

Home lab in Berkeley: Collins Lab

Research interests in the Hockemeyer lab:

I was interested in the regulation of telomerase recruitment to telomeres, and the dynamics of proteins at the telomere during recruitment.  I used gene targeting in human ES cells to specifically alter TPP1, a protein involved in this recruitment, to tease out its contributions to telomere maintenance.
