Post-doctoral Fellow
Research
During my PhD student period, I focused on a fatal neurodegenerative disorder named Lafora disease (LD).
During my post-doctoral training period, I seek to probe the requirements of protein homeostasis (proteostasis) in stem and germ cells. In order to understand proteostasis and its demise in aging, we decided to analyze proteostasis mechanisms in germ and stem cells, which are considered to be essentially immortal or displaying an increased ability of self-renewal. Surprisingly little is known about how these cells maintain proteostasis or face the impact of stressful conditions and age-associated disturbances. Without an appropriate strategy for coping with these challenges, suc disturbances could affect their survival or cellular function by challenging the integrity of their protein components. An extensive understanding of how these cells maintain their proteome is therefore of critical importance.
