Welcome to the Bilder Lab
Our laboratory focuses on understanding how cells organize themselves internally, in order to take on a specific external form and function. We explore these fundamental issues by studying a simple cell type - epithelia - in a highly manipulable model organism -- Drosophila. Working at the interface of cell biology, development, and genetics, we study the molecules and mechanisms that govern epithelial form, including apicobasal polarity, and how this form directs proper epithelial function to control cell proliferation and drive tissue morphogenesis.
