How to Submit Samples Click Here

Researchers provide the facility with the template DNA and sequencing primer in one 1.5mL tube. Samples must be free of SALTS, PROTEINS, CHROMOSOMAL DNA, DETERGENTS, excess primers and other components from PCR amplification, RNA, TE, EDTA, PHENOL, CHLOROFORM, ETHANOL and other organic chemicals. We ask that samples be suspended in pure water.

The facility runs the following cycle sequencing reaction: 96º for 1 minute then 25 cycles of:
96ºC for 10 second + 50ºC for 5 seconds + 60ºC for 4 minutes

It is best if you add the primer. If you do not have a primer on hand and you do not have time to order it, you can pick up (or we can mail to you) an aliqout for free. We have the following primers:
M13 reverse(-24)(16-mer): 5'-AACAGCTATGACCATG-3'
M13(18-mer): 5'-TGTAAAACGACGGCCAGT-3'
T7(20-mer): 5'-TAATACGACTCACTATAGGG-3'
T7 reverse(19-mer): 5'-GCTAGTTATTGCTCAGCGG-3'
T3(17-mer): 5'-ATTAACCCTCACTAAAG-3'
SP6(19-mer): 5'-GATTTAGGTGACACTATAG-3'
If you need us to add the primer, put a large note in red on your order form, and your samples should be just 10uL total volume.

If any of this does not meet your needs, please call us. 510.642.6383

Your results will be sent via e-mail as two files. One text file and one electropherogram file for each sample. If you have any trouble opening your files, or if you need them in a different format, just let us know.

Fragment Analysis and Genotyping
We are now accepting DNA fragment analysis and genotyping projects at $1.00 per well ($25.00 minimum per plate) for UC affiliated labs, (LBNL labs add 3%) and $1.53 per well ($38.25 minimum per plate) for non-UC labs. Call us before you order your primers. 510.642.9601

Turnaround Time
If your samples are turned in on time, the DNA Sequencing Facility is almost always able to e-mail results back to you by the following business day if not sooner. After we schedule your sample(s) we will e-mail you the expected date your results will be sent to your inbox. Please let us know right away by e-mail or phone 510.642.6383 if you do not receive your results by that day. We do not always get a notice if an e-mail message does not get through.

Equipment
We have two Applied Biosystems 96 capillary 3730xl DNA Analyzers, five Applied Biosystems GeneAmp 9700's, two MJ Research PTC-200's, one BIO-RAD iCyclerTM, one Eppendorf Mastercycler and one Perkin Elmer 9600.
