How to Submit Samples

  • Please follow these guidelines when preparing your samples:
    • Each sample tube (please do not use .2mL tubes) should contain one primer and one template at the concentrations indicated on the Order Form
    • Template Preparation:
Please be sure that you do not have SALTS, PROTEINS, DETERGENTS, RNA, CHROMOSOMAL DNA, ETHANOL, PHENOL, or TE in your sample.
    • PCR Products:
Quantitate your PCR products on an agarose gel.
    • Primers:
Please be sure your primers have a melting temperature (Tm) between 52°C and 60°C.

  • Order forms can be filled out and printed from this web site by following the Order Form link. Order forms can also be found at all of the sample drop off locations listed below.

    • Accounting Information for those with UC Berkeley accounts
We need your chartstring (e.g. 1-56620-19900-22233-44-none-FN248) or a 10 digit "speedtype" reference to your chartstring. You can use the Chart of Accounts Validation Web Service. to check that your on-campus accounting information is current. If it is not, contact your lab manager, your accounting department or your PI. Call us if you have any questions. 510.642.6383

    • For those without UC Berkeley accounts:
Labs from other UC campuses should use the accounting information you would normally use for any on-campus charge.
Labs from LBNL are charged the on-campus rate plus 3% and should have a current purchase order number or IUT number. Call us if you have any questions.
Outside labs should generate a purchase order and attach it to their order form or just send a check with your samples made out to "UC Regents".

  • Turn around time: If you drop off your samples on time, or we receive them in the mail before 12 noon we will send out your results via e-mail by the following business day if not sooner. Results can sometimes be delayed by equipment problems. If you do not receive your results by e-mail or a notification of a delay in one business day do not hesitate to e-mail or call. We do not always get a message if e-mail does not get through.
