FACILITY MANAGER:
Hitomi Asahara has a Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology from SUNY at Albany and post-doctoral training at UC Berkeley with a research focus on enzymes involved in DNA repair. She has been with the DNA sequencing facility since 2003 and has extensive experience in the operational management of technical facilities as well as a research lab.
SEQUENCING TEAM:
Millicent Yee-Wilson has a B.A. degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with an emphasis on Biochemistry from UC Berkeley. She worked as a research assistant on both the Dog and Human Genome Projects at LBNL before joining the facility in 1993.
Brian McCarthy has a B.A. degree in Biological Sciences with an emphasis on Ecology from UC Santa Barbara and worked as a technician in the Chevron Environmental Chemistry Laboratory before joining the facility in 2002.
Dorothy Okamoto has a B.S. in Nutrition and Food Science from UC Berkeley. Her research experiences include work with monocotyledonous plants, fusarium species and the Pseudomonas syringae bacteria. She joined the facility in 2006.
Erica Pederson has a B.S. in Zoology from University of Toronto. Her research experiences include working with the tadpole-less Puerto Rican Frog, Eleutherodactylus coqui, eyeless cave fish, and the yeast, Schizosaccharomyces pombe. She joined the facility in 2010.
Yufei (Pheora) Chen is an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley majoring Chemical Biology, intended minoring in industrial engineering and operation research. She was a student assistant in China National Petroleum Corporation Research Laboratory. She joined the facility in February, 2013.
Be Sun is an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley majoring in Chemical Engineering with an emphasis on Biotechnology. She joined the facility in February, 2013.
