Thunderbird Migration - Eudora Mailbox Cleaner

Eudora Mailbox Cleaner is an open-source utility program designed to be a simple drag and drop graphical application to ease migration between Eudora and other email applications.

1. Download Eudora Mailbox Cleaner software here. The download link is located near the bottom of the page.  After it is downloaded Cleaner will open as a disk image on your desktop.

2. Quit all applications involved in the migration. If Thunderbird, Eudora or Address Book are running during the migration, some of the data will be lost. This also includes programs like iChat which accesses the Address Book.

3. Relocate your Eudora data folder that you duplicated earlier. It is normally located in ~/Documents/Eudora Folder. You can also locate it by searching for 'Eudora Folder'.

4. With the Eudora Mailbox Cleaner image open and visible drag your Eudora data folder onto the Eudora Mailbox Cleaner.app in the Finder and select the appropriate settings in the dialog box.

5. In the window that appears, set Import from: to Eudora, "Import to" to Thunderbird and check both the Import mailboxes and Import nicknames check boxes. You can not check Import filters since they are not available for Thunderbird.

6. Verify the mailboxes and address book migrated successfully. You will find your imported messages in a Import folder under the Local Folders. These folders can be your Eudora archive as all new mail will go into your Thunderbird Inbox at the top of the folder list.

7. Congratulations for having reached this far and successfully switching to Thunderbird. Now you get to learn about the differences and nuances of this new program. Answers to most questions can be found in Thunderbird's Help menu or by typing Apple/Command and "?" mark keys at the same time.
